Gonzalo Calderon dropped into St Philip’s following the OB reunion of the night before, and met one of his successors as Captain of Cricket. Calderon captained the school teams for football, rugby and cricket in 1954!
An inspection of the archives held in the School Office confirm Calderon’s recollection of scoring 74 not out in 1954 for which Mr Tibbits awarded him a commemorative bat – the bat remains with him in his study in Madrid to this day.
Calderon is photographed here presenting a bat to current captain, Jasper Blackwood, who himself had received a similar honour this term for scoring a fifty for St Philip’s. Calderon was presented with his own Baggy Blue First XI cap by Blackwood in return.
